Chris Ivery, Ellen Pompeo, pregnantGrey's Anatomy may expect a Mc-“Baby” storyline anytime soon.


The series' lead actress Ellen Pompeo, 39, and husband of two years, record producer, Chris Ivery, 41 are expecting their first child.

The couple, who dated for four years, met at a grocery store in 2003. They were engaged in 2006 when Ivery surprised Pompeo on her birthday with a 3.5 karat diamond engagement ring with platinum setting. They were secretly married with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg as sole witness in November 2007. Unlike other Hollywood weddings, Pempeo’s was simply low key. The bride wore an Yves Saint Laurent little black dress that was bought in Paris, France and spent their honeymoon at a basketball game.

The rep of Meredith Grey’s alter ego, Jennifer Allen confirms to PEOPLE that the couple is indeed building their own family. “It’s great news, they’re ecstatic” says Allen.

To prepare for their bundle of joy’s arrival, Ellen Pompeo was seen shopping for baby wear In Los Angeles.

Pompeo is not the only Grey’s Anatomy doctor carrying a baby bump in real life. Actress and co-star Chyler Leigh is expecting her third child, a girl, in May with hubby Nathan West.

Pompeo plays Meredith Grey in Grey’s Anatomy. She is a Golden Globe nominated and Screen Actor’s Guild Award Winning actress for playing the title role. She started as Jake Gyllenhal’s love interest in the Brad Silberling film “Moonlight Mile” and as Matt Murdock’s (Ben Affleck) secretary in Daredevil. She was also honored by the National Italian American Foundation for her achievement in the entertainment industry.
